The Oracle Restart feature provides the ability to start,stop and restart an Oracle Database or Oracle ASM instance (if used) on the same server as part of the management provided by Oracle Grid Infrastructure. The Oracle Restart feature is available via the Oracle Grid Infrastructure Standalone and the Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster deployment and will be applied to Single Instance Oracle Databases only. The potential restart of an Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) or Oracle RAC One Node database instance is governed by a different feature provided by Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster deployment. Consequently,Oracle Restart does not provide failover of any kind. The restart of an Oracle Database instance provided by Oracle Restart requires the server,the operating system as well as the Oracle Grid Infrastructure stack to be running properly in order to succeed.
